Armed Forces Reserve Medal

Established by Executive Order in September 1950.

Awarded to any officer or enlisted member of the Reserve Components who completes 10 years of continuous qualifying service.

In 1996, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal was extended to reservists who were mobilized for federal active service, regardless of their years.

For a federal mobilization for a reservist, an “M” device is worn.

An Hour Glass device is awarded for subsequent awards: Bronze for 10Yrs (12yrs), a silver for 20yrs, and gold for 30yrs.

For subsequent mobilizations a number device is given showing the number of mobilizations served.
