Byrd Antarctic Expedition Medal, 1928-1930

The first Byrd Antarctic Expedition medal was established by congress on May 1930 for the successfully reaching the South Pole. A base was established and named “Little America”, still used today. Medal was issued in three degrees: gold, silver, and bronze totaling eighty-six medals awarded.
